Students enrolled at Desert Shadows Middle School are expected to attend school each day.
When a student must be absent, a Parent or Guardian must call in or send a note excusing his/her
son/daughter for the absence within 24 hours. If a note or call is not received from the parent or
legal guardian, the student will receive an unexcused absence. An unexcused absence, as defined in
the Apache Junction City Ordinance #956 section 10-1-29 is the parent's or legal guardian's failure,
within twenty-four (24) hours, to notify the school and advise that the absence was excused and
authorized by parent or legal guardian. When a student receives five (5) or more unexcused absences,
their attendance record will be forwarded to the Truancy Officer. Students are expected to arrive on time.
If a student is tardy, student needs to bring a note from parent or guardian or be signed in at the office by
parent or guardian. Students are allotted 3 Tardes per quarter (9 weeks). Once the student has reached their
allotment of Tardes, the student will receive "No" stamps on their stampsheet.
