Course Description
The
8th grade Social Studies curriculum enables students to effectively
apply a working knowledge of the following items: Governmental principles of the
Materials
In order to receive a “yes” stamp, students are expected to bring homework, a binder, pen/ pencil, planner, stamp sheet, textbook and paper. Students must also have an AR book. Students will receive a “no” if all necessary materials are not in class.
Grading Policy
90%-100%
A Tests
= 25% of grade
80%-89% B Final = 15% of grade
70%-79% C Classwork = 40% of grade
60%-69% D Homework = 20% of grade
59% and lower F
Assignments are due on the assigned date. In the event of an absence, homework is due on the day the student returns to school. It is the student’s responsibility to make up missed assignments. Students will have two days for every day they are absent. Late assignments are only accepted with instructor permission. Extra credit assignments are not available.
Progress Reports
Progress reports are sent home to keep you informed on your child’s status in Social Studies. If you do not receive, or wish to discuss a report, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Attendance
It is expected that students attend class daily in order to keep on top of daily notes and lessons. However, if a planned absence is anticipated, please ask for assignments in advance. Parents/students are encouraged to call the homework hotline in the case of an unexpected illness.
Classroom Rules/Discipline/Consequences
1. Be in your seat and prepared when the bell rings.
2. Remain in your seat during class discussions.
3. Be respectful to others, as well as property belonging to others.
4. Hats and sunglasses are for outside.
5. Food, and soda are for lunchtime. Only water bottles will be permitted.
6. No
backpacks are allowed in the classroom.
Students
are expected to follow the
1. Students will receive a warning.
2. Students will be removed from the activity for a private conference.
3. Parents will be notified via phone call or letter home.
4. An office referral will be given if the behaviors continue.
Severe classroom disruptions will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate office referral! If your child is experiencing difficulties at home that may result in behaviors in school, please notify school personnel so that we may meet as a prevention team.
